South Shore of Oyster Bay is not the freeze URL
Massapequa is a hamlet on the South Shore of the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau. Wantagh sits next door in the Town of Hempstead. Hicksville and Bethpage sit inland in the same town as this hamlet and keep their own jobs. The freeze-versus-volume argument — Oyster Bay, Glen Cove, and Long Beach sat below their 2020 census count — belongs on the Oyster Bay town page. This URL does not re-try that census. A Massapequa ranch still has a kitchen tap and a high tub whether the town count is freeze or not.
Census Vintage 2025 still has Nassau at 1,398,939 people. Hempstead Town took +2,418 of Nassau's +3,163 after 2020. Brookhaven took +10,779 of Suffolk's +20,170. Oyster Bay did not take those people. That split is freeze versus volume. It is a people count. It is not a water-quality score for Sunrise Highway. It is not a reason to mail a well kit from a kitchen that already pays a Nassau district.
Oyster Bay listings have run around $1.1M. Nassau typical values sit near $859k in mid-2026. Hempstead-town sales in Q2 2026 sat nearer $641k against a county median nearer $825k. Those are town and county housing meters. They belong on the housing guide if you are still arguing stay-or-leave, and on the moving guide if you already decided to go. They are not a lab result from this sink. They are not this hamlet's first Saturday.
The South Shore stock here is postwar ranch and Cape, one hall bath, a parent who wants to stay. That is closer in layout to a Wantagh or Levittown Saturday than to a North Shore listing argument. Wantagh still keeps the Hempstead-town aging URL. Levittown keeps the original-Cape URL. Massapequa keeps the Oyster Bay South Shore fork: public tap plus aging, freeze parked on the town page.
Nassau public supply is the usual Massapequa glass
Nassau kitchens almost always pay a water district. The county has on the order of a few hundred private wells — about 500 in the plan figure used here — against Suffolk's plan figure of about 45,000 private wells, on the order of 200,000 people. Skip the well kit unless you can point to a round cap in this yard and a kitchen that actually drinks it. Open last month's mail. A district bill means public supply. A hydrant on the block is not a lab. The house next door in Wantagh is a different town. A house toward the Suffolk line is still not your pipe.
Nassau is about 85 percent sewered. Suffolk is about 26 percent sewered, about 74 percent of homes unsewered, with on the order of 360,000 on-site systems. Massapequa did not inherit Suffolk's well census by sitting near the county line. Unsewered is also not the same as a private well. Plenty of Long Island lots pay a water-district bill and still send bathroom water into a tank. That is a different setup from a kitchen that drinks a backyard well. Do not treat a sewer story as a bottle from this sink.
The sand under both counties is a sole-source aquifer, designated in 1978. Nassau and Suffolk have no backup drinking water. That is why a filter class can still matter at a treated district tap. It is not a reason to mail Suffolk bottles from a Nassau kitchen. If you just got the keys, ask for the last water bill that week. If you rent, ask who pays the water. Silence plus a cap is still a well until a lab. If the well only waters the lawn and the kitchen already sits on a treated district line, skip the kit.
Do not call Suffolk's $100 well desk from a Massapequa district tap. That number is 631-852-5810. It is a real Suffolk County product. It looks at bacteria, nitrates, and metals people have asked that office about for years. It does not look for PFAS. It does not look for 1,4-dioxane. Massapequa is Nassau. This site is not that office. Do not mail bottles to 65 Cedar Street in Kings Park either. That mailbox is legal paper for this publisher, not a lab. There is no public Pipedeck phone.
Filter class at the tap, not a Suffolk kit
Public water is treated. You may still want a point-of-use unit on the glass, the coffee pot, and cooking water. New York limits two common PFAS — PFOA and PFOS — at 10 parts per trillion in drinking water. You will not taste that. You will not smell it. A clear glass does not settle it. Look for NSF 53 or P473 on the carton, with those compounds named, or reverse osmosis under the sink. That shopping lives on the PFAS guide. A fridge pitcher that only says it filters water is usually chlorine and taste.
1,4-dioxane needs reverse osmosis. A pitcher is a refund for that chemical. The shopping page is the dioxane guide. Hempstead public wells have shown dioxane in 7 of 9 in the record we use. That is a Hempstead tap finding, not a Massapequa well census. Yale Superfund 2026 sampled 92 Long Island taps: about a third showed dioxane, about a quarter over New York's 1 µg/L line. Tap is not blood. Blood and tap did not correlate in that study. Do not paste it onto this hamlet as a local score.
Do not paste Bethpage's Navy–Grumman TCE plume — about 4 by 2 miles — onto this South Shore kitchen. Bethpage keeps that public-supply story. Do not paste Calverton's 14.9 ppb dioxane, or PFNA at 7,580 ppt against a 10 ppt line, onto Massapequa. Calverton is a different town and a different tap. Hicksville is the inland Oyster Bay hamlet that stays on filter class; it is not this South Shore ranch.
The island has 34 federal plus 449 state listed sites — 483 in all, not 500 Superfunds. Those listings sit on the same sand. They do not tell you whether this Massapequa kitchen is a well. The bill does. Then the filter class, or the bathroom. Cartridges are a yearly cost after you install something that matches the chemical. That later bill lives on the replacements page, not here. Do not hang a well kit on a district tap. Do not hang a Superfund headline on either Saturday.
Aging this decade on a South Shore ranch
Nassau aged first. Census yearly estimates put people 65 and older on Long Island at 324,616 in 1990 and 597,366 in 2025. That is almost twice. People 75 and older went from 126,654 to 266,949. Nassau now has 287,121 people 65 and older, about 20.5 percent of the county. Nassau 85+ is 37,634. Suffolk has 310,245 people 65 and older, about 20.1 percent, and 38,263 people 85 and older. Two counties, almost the same share. Care work showed first in the Town of Hempstead and Levittown. Babylon, Huntington, and Islip are the Suffolk South Shore ring. Massapequa is Nassau South Shore stock inside a freeze town.
People born from 1946 through 1964 are 61 to 79 years old in 2025. The leading edge has been 65 since 2011. That is this decade, not a 2031 start date. If someone still uses the high tub, grab bars and a shower seat are this year's job on the aging page. A grab bar is stainless into a stud or solid backing. It is not a towel bar. It is not a suction cup. A shower seat is made for a wet floor. A kitchen stool is not that seat. Light the stairs after that. You do not need a walk-in shower to stay in the ranch this year. Two people sharing one hall bath is the usual layout on these blocks. Finish the wet room before you shop a second bath.
About 155,048 Nassau 18-to-34-year-olds lived with a parent in the Newsday ACS table — 58.4 percent. Island-wide about 322,000 people 18 to 34 still live with a parent. If that is this Massapequa ranch, the bathroom still has to work for the parent. The adult child's rent story is the households page. House prices on this island rose about four times since 1990. Pay rose about three. FHFA HPI ran Nassau 72 to 300 and Suffolk 75 to 316 from 1990 to 2025. That gap is why people stay in the ranch instead of buying the next one.
If the decision is already to leave, you need a truck, not a second set of bottles and not a new shower. If you are staying, the tap class and the hall bath are two Saturdays under one roof. Do not wait for a 2031 plan. Do not hang grab bars on a well you have not sampled — and on this street, you almost certainly do not have a well. Sample only if you can point to one. Otherwise match the filter to the chemical you actually mean, then put steel on the tile. Publisher: Pipedeck, 65 Cedar Street, Kings Park, NY 11754.

Common questions
Is Massapequa on a private well?
Almost never. Massapequa is Town of Oyster Bay South Shore on Nassau public supply. Mail a kit only if this kitchen actually drinks a well you can point to.
Is this the Town of Oyster Bay freeze page?
No. Freeze versus volume, and the $1.1M listing meter, live on /oyster-bay/. This hamlet URL is the district tap and the hall bath.
Why is the pick grab bars if the job is also the tap?
The kitchen already pays a district, so skip the well kit. Match a filter class on the tap guides. The Saturday this page sells is steel in the tub, because Nassau aged first and the boom is already 61 to 79.
Can I hang Hempstead dioxane or Bethpage TCE on this kitchen?
No. Hempstead's 7 of 9 public-well dioxane record stays labeled Hempstead. Bethpage keeps the Navy–Grumman TCE plume. Match NSF 53, P473, or reverse osmosis to this tap if you want those chemicals treated here.
Can I use Suffolk's $100 well test from Massapequa?
No. 631-852-5810 is a Suffolk County product. Massapequa is Nassau. This site is not that office.
Wantagh is next door. Is this the same page?
No. Wantagh is Town of Hempstead. Massapequa is Town of Oyster Bay South Shore. Both are Nassau district kitchens. The freeze town stays on the Oyster Bay URL. This one keeps the South Shore tap-plus-aging fork.
Will a fridge pitcher treat 1,4-dioxane in Massapequa?
No. Reverse osmosis is the class. A pitcher is usually chlorine and taste. That chemical has its own guide so the box matches the job.
