Nassau · Freeport
Freeport NY pays a district. Reverse osmosis, then the ranch.
Village of Freeport sits on the Town of Hempstead South Shore. Public tap. Volume town. 1,4-dioxane is reverse osmosis, not a pitcher. Care showed up in this town first. A Suffolk well kit is the wrong first buy.

South Shore of Hempstead Town is a public tap
Freeport is a South Shore village inside the Town of Hempstead, Nassau. The glass in this kitchen almost always comes from a water district. Walk the mail for a bill, not the grass for a cap. Nassau is about 85 percent sewered. Nassau has on the order of a few hundred private wells countywide — about 500 in the lock we write from. Suffolk's water plan still cites about 45,000 private wells, on the order of 200,000 people. That plan figure is Suffolk. It is not a door-to-door of this village. Skip the kit unless you can point to a well on this lot.
The town name on a map does not make a well. Wantagh, Levittown, and Freeport all sit in Hempstead Town. Each URL keeps one job. Levittown keeps the original Cape and the first care wave. Wantagh keeps another inland Cape in that wave. The town's crowded-tap note lives on Hempstead. This URL is the South Shore village on a district: membrane first, then the ranch. A neighbor in Babylon or Islip can still drink a well. Their Saturday is not yours.
If you just got the keys, ask for the last water bill that week. Closing papers that never mention a well are the usual Freeport file. If you rent, ask who pays the water. A hydrant in the street plus a district envelope is still a public tap. If a leftover well only waters the lawn, and the kitchen already sits on a treated line, skip the kit. People here drink the district.
Do not call 631-852-5810 from this sink and treat it as the page. That number is Suffolk County's $100 private-well test. It is a real lab. It is cheap. It looks at bacteria, nitrates, and the metals people have asked that county about for years. It does not look for PFAS. It does not look for 1,4-dioxane. This site is not that office. Freeport is Nassau. Wrong county, wrong panel, wrong first buy. The wider well map lives on the Suffolk wells page, for kitchens that actually have no bill.
Volume town: Hempstead took Nassau's people
After 2020, Nassau added 3,163 people. The Town of Hempstead absorbed 2,418 of them. Freeport sits in that volume town. Freeze sat somewhere else: Oyster Bay, Glen Cove, and Long Beach stayed below their 2020 census counts. Do not hang a freeze-city leave button on this village because a barrier-island count went the other way. Long Beach keeps that meter. This URL keeps the South Shore district tap inside the town that took the people.
Suffolk's volume went to Brookhaven — 10,779 of the county's 20,170 people after 2020. That is another county and another URL. Census Vintage 2025 puts Nassau at 1,398,939 people. A crowded town is not a private-well census. It is also not a reason to skip the chemical class at a public tap. The sand under both counties is a sole-source aquifer, designated in 1978. Nassau and Suffolk have no backup drinking water. A district plant still leaves a household job for 1,4-dioxane.
Nassau is about 85 percent sewered. Suffolk is about 26 percent sewered — about 74 percent of homes unsewered, with about 360,000 on-site systems. Unsewered Suffolk is not a reason to treat a Freeport kitchen as a well. Plenty of Suffolk lots pay a water bill and still send bathroom water into a tank. That split is their problem. Freeport is Nassau public supply on the sewered side of the island. Do not borrow Islip's mixed-well fork. Do not borrow Oakdale's sewer vote. Those hamlets sit in the Town of Islip. This village does not.
House prices on this island rose about four times since 1990. Pay rose about three. Hempstead town sales sat near $641k in Q2 2026 against a Nassau county median near $825k. Nassau typical values sit near $859k. That gap is why people stay in the ranch instead of buying the next one. The full price-versus-paycheck story lives on the housing guide. This page assumes the Freeport house is staying long enough for a membrane under the sink, and then for steel on the tile. If the decision is already to leave, you need a truck, not a second pitcher and not a well kit.
Dioxane class: a pitcher is a refund
The Hempstead public-well record used on this site showed 1,4-dioxane in seven of nine wells. Label that Hempstead. Do not promote it into a Freeport private-well score. Nassau barely has private wells to score. In 2026 a Yale Superfund research group sampled 92 kitchen taps on Long Island. About 32 percent of those taps showed 1,4-dioxane. About 24 percent sat over New York's 1 microgram-per-liter line. Tap is not blood. Blood and tap did not correlate. Do not read that paper as a Freeport body-burden file, and do not read it as an island PFAS census.
1,4-dioxane does not smell in the kettle. It does not cloud the glass. A household usually meets it on a water-district report, not at dinner. A fridge pitcher is a short carbon pass. That can help with chlorine taste. This solvent is small and it likes water, so it rides through carbon that only sees the glass for a minute. A fridge-door cartridge is the same idea in a different box. A shower head is the wrong aisle. So is a salt softener. If the carton only says it filters water, it is not a 1,4-dioxane filter. Reverse osmosis is the class. The shopping page for that box is the dioxane reverse-osmosis guide.
New York limits two common PFAS — PFOA and PFOS — at 10 parts per trillion in drinking water. You will not taste that. You will not smell it. Look for NSF 53 or P473 on the box, or reverse osmosis under the sink — the PFAS page. Those marks speak to PFAS. They are not the 1,4-dioxane class. If both chemicals are the worry on a Freeport district tap, one under-sink reverse-osmosis unit can cover the drinking faucet. You do not have to plumb the whole house. Coffee, cooking water, and the glass at night are the jobs. Cartridges are a yearly cost after you install something that actually matches the chemical. That later bill lives on the replacements page, not here.
Do not paste Calverton site numbers onto this sink. Calverton, at the old Navy/Grumman plant, sampled 1,4-dioxane at 14.9 ppb against a 1 ppb standard, and PFNA at 7,580 ppt against 10 ppt. That plume is a Calverton well story. Bethpage keeps a Navy–Grumman TCE plume on the order of four miles by two, and a mostly public-supply kitchen — that URL is Bethpage. Mattituck's 20 of 38 private wells over the PFAS limit stay in Mattituck. The island has 34 federal plus 449 state listed sites, 483 in all, not 500 Superfunds. A listing on the same sand is not a Freeport well. The bill is. Then the membrane.
Care showed up in this town first
Nassau's 65-and-older pile-up showed first in the Town of Hempstead and Levittown. Freeport sits in that town. Census yearly estimates put people 65 and older on Long Island at 324,616 in 1990 and 597,366 in 2025. That is almost twice. People 75 and older went from 126,654 to 266,949. Nassau now has 287,121 people 65 and older, about 20.5 percent of the county, and 37,634 people 85 and older. Suffolk has 310,245 people 65 and older, about 20.1 percent. Two counties, almost the same share. The street names changed. Hempstead and Levittown did the bathroom work first. Babylon, Huntington, and Islip are the next South Shore ring. This village is still Nassau. It is not that Suffolk ring.
People born from 1946 through 1964 are 61 to 79 years old in 2025. The leading edge has been 65 since 2011. That is this decade, not a 2031 start. After the drinking tap is reverse osmosis, the ranch is the other Saturday. If someone still uses the high tub, grab bars and a shower seat are this year's job on the aging page. Light the stairs after that. You do not need a walk-in shower to stay in the house this year. Two people sharing one hall bath is the usual layout on these blocks. Finish the wet room before you shop for a second bath. Do not hang steel on a solvent the pitcher cannot touch, and do not hang a well kit on a district bill.
About 155,048 Nassau 18-to-34-year-olds live with a parent — 58.4 percent of that age group. Long Island's combined figure is about 322,000 people, about 56 percent, against a U.S. share near 32 percent. If that is this Freeport house, the adults at home page is the census table. The district tap does not change it. Ticks are an East End grass job. Freeport is not that ecology. Do not hang permethrin on this URL.
Do not hang a Superfund headline on either Saturday. Do not hang a Suffolk well kit on a Hempstead-town hydrant. The bill decides the pipe. Reverse osmosis decides the solvent. The aging page decides the tub. Publisher mailbox: 65 Cedar Street, Kings Park, NY 11754. No public Pipedeck phone. Do not mail bottles here.

Common questions
Is every Freeport kitchen on a private well?
No. Freeport is Town of Hempstead South Shore. The usual glass is a Nassau district. Mail a kit only if you can point to a well on this lot.
Do I mail Suffolk's $100 well test from Freeport?
No. 631-852-5810 is Suffolk County well testing. Freeport is Nassau. That $100 panel is also not the PFAS or 1,4-dioxane kit. This site is not that office.
Will a fridge pitcher take 1,4-dioxane out of a Freeport tap?
No. A pitcher is a refund for this solvent. Reverse osmosis is the class. NSF 53 or P473 speaks to PFAS, not 1,4-dioxane.
Is Hempstead's 7-of-9 dioxane record a Freeport well score?
No. It is a Hempstead public-well record used on this site. Label it Hempstead. Do not promote it into a Freeport private-well census.
Is Freeport in Nassau's freeze set with Long Beach?
No. Oyster Bay, Glen Cove, and Long Beach sat below their 2020 census counts. Hempstead Town took 2,418 of Nassau's 3,163 people after 2020. Freeport sits in that volume town.
Should grab bars come before reverse osmosis on a Freeport ranch?
Put reverse osmosis on the drinking tap first if 1,4-dioxane is the chemical you mean. Care showed up in Hempstead Town first. Steel into a stud is the other Saturday, on the aging page.
Can I paste Calverton or Bethpage numbers onto this sink?
No. Calverton keeps the Navy/Grumman dioxane and PFNA samples. Bethpage keeps the TCE plume. Match a filter class to this Freeport district kitchen.
