Suffolk · Rocky Point
Rocky Point is Brookhaven's North Shore. Mixed wells, not the Fork.
Rocky Point sits on Long Island Sound inside the Town of Brookhaven. Some kitchens pay a district. Some still drink a well. This is not Southold. This is not a tick SKU. The bill and the cap settle the Saturday.

North Shore Brookhaven is not the North Fork
Rocky Point is a hamlet in the Town of Brookhaven, on the Sound side of Suffolk. The North Fork is a different peninsula. Mattituck, Greenport, and Southold sit east of the Riverhead split. This URL does not inherit their well census. In one North Fork round, 20 of 38 private wells sat over the PFAS limit, some about 60 times over. That sample lives on the Mattituck page. It is not a reading for a Rocky Point kitchen. Eighteen of those wells were not over the line either. None of that math names the tap on this lot.
Brookhaven is a wide town. Patchogue and Medford sit on other shores and other roads inside the same town name. Those pages keep their own mixed-street notes. Medford is the south-central story where mains reached some blocks years after the ranches. Patchogue is the South Shore village inside Brookhaven's volume count. Rocky Point is the North Shore hamlet. Same town. Same Suffolk well rules. Different water search. Do not paste a South Shore hydrant onto a Sound-side cap. Do not paste a Fork well onto this glass.
Calverton sits toward the Peconic with a named Navy/Grumman file: 1,4-dioxane at 14.9 parts per billion against a 1 part-per-billion line, and one PFAS compound at 7,580 parts per trillion against 10. Those are site numbers on the Calverton page. They are not a Rocky Point tap. Riverhead is the fork town, not this hamlet. Bethpage is a Nassau public-supply plume story. The island has 34 federal plus 449 state listed sites — 483 in all, not 500 Superfunds. Listings sit on the same sand. They still do not tell you whether this kitchen is a well.
Nassau and Suffolk drink a sole-source aquifer designated in 1978. There is no backup drinking water. That is the island fact. It is not a license to hang another hamlet's lab sheet on Rocky Point. If this house drinks a well, measure this house.
Mixed wells: the bill on this lot, not the hamlet name
Rocky Point is mixed-well geography. Some kitchens pay a Suffolk County Water Authority bill. Some still drink a private well. The hamlet name on the envelope does not settle it. Walk the grass for a round cap, often close to the house. Listen for a pump and a pressure tank in the basement or a small well house. Then look at the mail. If a water-district bill never shows up, treat the kitchen as a well until a lab says otherwise.
Suffolk's water plan still cites about 45,000 private wells, on the order of 200,000 people. That is a plan figure, not a door-to-door count of Rocky Point. Nassau has on the order of a few hundred private wells, about 500 in the county plan figure used here. This hamlet is Suffolk. Mixed streets exist on the North Shore the same way they exist elsewhere in the county. The house next door can pay a district while yours still draws from the yard. A neighbor's tap is not your pipe. A hydrant at the corner is not a lab report.
If you just got the keys, ask for the last water bill and walk the grass that week. Closing papers can name a well and still skip the two chemicals this kit is for. If you rent, ask who pays the water and whether there is a cap. Silence is still a well until a lab. If the well only waters the lawn and the kitchen already sits on a treated district line, skip the kit. If people still drink, cook, and make coffee from the well, fill the bottles.
How to fill the bottles, why a hardware-store strip will not name PFAS or 1,4-dioxane, and what Suffolk's $100 county panel actually checks live on the Suffolk wells page. This URL is the Rocky Point fork: already on the main, or still a well, on Brookhaven's North Shore — not a reprint of that kit walkthrough.
Brookhaven took people. This kitchen still needs a bill.
Brookhaven took +10,779 of Suffolk's +20,170 people after 2020. That is a town volume meter. It is not a water main on this block. More kitchens in the town do not tell you whether this Rocky Point sink sits on a district. Volume is Brookhaven as a town. This URL is one North Shore hamlet inside it. A people count is not a hydrant. A people count is not a sewer either.
Most of Suffolk is still unsewered. About 26 percent of Suffolk homes are on a sewer. About 74 percent are not. The county still talks about 360,000 on-site systems — septic tanks and cesspools — on the same sand that later shows up in the glass. Nassau is about 85 percent sewered. Brookhaven's post-2020 gain did not flip that county split. Unsewered is not the same as a private well. Plenty of lots pay a water-district bill and still send bathroom water into a tank. Plenty of lots run a well and a tank on the same sand. Those are two setups. Nitrate in the Magothy aquifer rose more than 80 percent from 1987 to 2013. That is leftover plumbing on sand, not a PFAS meter. A nitrate strip can be a later job. It is not a substitute for the kit this page is about if the kitchen still drinks a well.
Oakdale's sewer vote passed about 88 percent in December 2025 when grants paid for construction. Great River voted no in 2019. Those are Town of Islip hamlet votes. They do not sewer Rocky Point. They do not sewer Brookhaven. Until later connections actually land, Suffolk is still about 74 percent unsewered. Do not hang an Islip referendum on a North Shore Brookhaven lot.
From 2016 through 2022, Suffolk sampled private wells. About 47 percent of those wells showed some PFAS. Two hundred two of them were over drinking-water standards. That is the wells they sampled. It is not a score for every house in the 45,000-well plan figure, and it is not a Rocky Point-only census we are going to invent. New York limits two common PFAS — PFOA and PFOS — at 10 parts per trillion in drinking water. You will not taste that. You will not smell it. A clear glass does not mean the well is clear of it. Suffolk was in the state's well PFAS pilot. If you drink the well, measure this kitchen.
House prices on this island rose about four times since 1990. Pay rose about three. Suffolk's federal house index ran about 75 to 316. That gap is why people stay in the ranch. The full price-versus-paycheck story lives on the housing guide. This page assumes the Rocky Point house is staying long enough for a well kit or a filter class. If the decision is already to leave, you need a truck, not a second set of bottles. Suffolk recorded 118 traffic deaths in 2024 against Nassau's 67. That is roads, not the aquifer.
Not a tick-first page. After the report, match the chemical.
East End tick search is ecology: grass, brush, clothes. Permethrin lives on the ticks guide and on East End URLs. Rocky Point is not those pages. Wooded North Shore lots exist. This URL still starts at the tap. Do not hang a clothes spray on a well you have not sampled. Do not hang a well kit on a hedge. Two jobs. Two Saturdays. This hop is the kitchen.
If a water-district bill already shows up, skip this kit. Start with the tap guides for PFAS and 1,4-dioxane. Public water is treated. You may still want a filter that matches those chemicals. Look for NSF 53 or P473 on the box, or reverse osmosis under the sink. A fridge pitcher that only says it filters water is usually chlorine and taste. 1,4-dioxane needs reverse osmosis. A pitcher is a refund for that chemical. Do not paste Calverton site numbers or a Mattituck 20-of-38 onto this Rocky Point kitchen.
If the well report comes back high for PFAS, get a filter made for that chemical. After a high PFAS report, shop a unit that was tested for those compounds. Reverse osmosis also covers them. Test first if you drink a well. Buying the box first is how a pitcher ends up in the fridge and the well stays the well. If 1,4-dioxane is high, skip the jug. The shopping page for that box is the dioxane reverse-osmosis guide. Cartridges are a yearly cost after you install something that actually matches the report. That later bill lives on the replacements page, not here.
People born from 1946 through 1964 are 61 to 79 years old in 2025. Care showed first in Hempstead and Levittown, then the South Shore ring. Suffolk has 310,245 people 65 and older, about 20.1 percent of the county. If this Rocky Point ranch is staying and someone still uses the high tub, grab bars belong on the aging page after the tap is settled. Do not hang steel on a well you have not sampled. Do not wait for a 2031 plan to open the kit box.
Publisher legal mail is 65 Cedar Street, Kings Park, NY 11754. That is a hamlet in the Town of Smithtown, west along the North Shore, not Rocky Point. Do not send sample bottles there. Send them to the lab named on the kit. There is no public Pipedeck phone. 631-852-5810 is the county well desk, not this publisher.

Common questions
Is Rocky Point on the North Fork?
No. Rocky Point is a hamlet on Brookhaven's North Shore. The North Fork is Southold geography — Mattituck, Greenport, the rest of that peninsula. Do not hang a Fork well census on this Sound-side kitchen.
Is every Rocky Point house on a private well?
No. This hamlet is mixed-well geography. Some kitchens pay a water-district bill. Some still drink a well. The bill and a cap in the grass settle this lot, not the hamlet name.
Is this a tick page?
No. East End grass is a different URL. This page is the tap: well kit if there is no district bill, filter class if there is. Clothes spray is not a lab report.
Can I copy Mattituck's 20-of-38 PFAS sample onto a Rocky Point tap?
No. Twenty of 38 is a North Fork hamlet sample. It is not a reading for Brookhaven's North Shore. If this kitchen drinks a well, fill bottles here.
Where do I get the bottle-fill for a Rocky Point well?
On the Suffolk wells page, not here. This URL is the fork: no district bill means that kit, on Brookhaven's North Shore, not the North Fork.
What if a Rocky Point well report comes back high?
Match the chemical to the tool. NSF 53 or P473, or reverse osmosis, for PFAS. Reverse osmosis for 1,4-dioxane. A fridge pitcher is not that filter.
Is this the same job as Medford or Patchogue?
No. Those URLs sit in south-central and South Shore Brookhaven. Rocky Point is the North Shore hamlet in the same town. Same county well rules. Different shore. Different page.
Do I still order a well kit if I already pay a Rocky Point water bill?
No. Skip the kit on a district bill. Match a PFAS filter or reverse osmosis to the tap. Test the water you drink, not a sprinkler well you never use for coffee.
