Inland hamlet in the town that took the people
Coram is a hamlet in the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk. It is not a village on the bay. It is not a freeze ZIP that sat under its 2020 count. Census Vintage 2025 still has Suffolk at 1,546,090 people and Nassau at 1,398,939. After 2020, Brookhaven took +10,779 of Suffolk's +20,170 added people. Hempstead Town took +2,418 of Nassau's +3,163. Oyster Bay, Glen Cove, and Long Beach sat below their 2020 bases. Volume versus freeze is that split. Coram sits on the volume side because the town around it absorbed the bodies.
Volume is more kitchens, more cars, and more lots that never got a main. It is not a Coram-only census we are going to invent. It is not a well score. It is not a reason to hang a Superfund headline on 11727. The town page at Brookhaven holds the town meter. This URL is the inland hamlet: Middle Country Road through the middle of the island, the Long Island Expressway to the south, Nicolls Road to the west, and ranches that can still hide a cap in the grass. Selden, Gordon Heights, Middle Island, and Farmingville are other Brookhaven names. They do not drink this tap.
House prices on this island rose about four times since 1990. Pay rose about three. FHFA HPI for Suffolk ran on the order of 75 to 316. SAIPE income for the county ran from $43,339 (1989) to $125,969 (2024). That gap is why people stay in the ranch instead of buying the next one. The full price file lives on the housing guide. If the decision is already to leave, you need a truck, not a second set of bottles. This page assumes the Coram house is staying long enough to settle the pipe.
Do not paste Islip's boom-care ring onto this slug. Babylon, Huntington, and Islip are the South Shore care order after Hempstead and Levittown. Brookhaven has plenty of high tubs, and the island 65-and-older count nearly doubled from 324,616 in 1990 to 597,366 in 2025. Care work still belongs on the aging page if someone uses the high tub. Volume and care-crunch order are not the same sentence. Coram's first job on this URL is still the kitchen.
Mixed wells: 11727 does not name the pipe
Coram is mixed-well geography. Some kitchens pay a Suffolk County Water Authority bill. Some still drink a private well. The hamlet name on a 11727 envelope does not settle it. Walk the grass for a round cap, often close to the house. Listen for a pump and a pressure tank in the basement or a small well house. Then look at the mail. If a water-district bill never shows up, treat the kitchen as a well until a lab says otherwise.
Suffolk's water plan still cites about 45,000 private wells, on the order of 200,000 people. That is a plan figure, not a door-to-door count of Coram. Nassau has on the order of a few hundred private wells. This hamlet is Suffolk. Mixed streets exist. The house next door can pay a district while yours still draws from the yard. A neighbor's tap is not your pipe. Medford keeps the named mixed-street note that mains reached some of those blocks years after the ranches went in — that file is Medford. Patchogue is the South Shore village in the same town — that file is Patchogue. Do not borrow either one as a Coram result.
If you just got the keys, ask for the last water bill and walk the grass that week. Closing papers can name a well and still skip the two chemicals this kit is for. If you rent, ask who pays the water and whether there is a cap. Silence is still a well until a lab. If the well only waters the lawn and the kitchen already sits on a treated district line, skip the kit. If people still drink, cook, and make coffee from the well, fill the bottles.
Bottle-fill steps, the hardware-store strip, and Suffolk's $100 county panel live on the Suffolk wells page — not here. Order the kit from the button if this Coram kitchen is off the mains, then follow that guide for the sample.
From 2016 through 2022, Suffolk sampled private wells. About 47 percent of those wells showed some PFAS. Two hundred two of them were over drinking-water standards. That is the wells they sampled. It is not a Coram-only census. New York limits PFOA and PFOS at 10 parts per trillion. You will not taste that. A clear glass does not mean the well is clear of it. If you drink the well, measure this kitchen.
Suffolk roads are the second Saturday
Cars are real in this hamlet. They are not the first hop. Suffolk recorded 118 traffic deaths in 2024. Nassau recorded 67. Injury reports sit near 58 in Suffolk and 38.4 in Nassau. Those are two columns. Do not add them. Do not hang 118 on the aquifer. Volume towns put more cars on the same parkways. Coram sits on Middle Country Road and feeds the Expressway. Households here keep about 2.3 to 2.6 cars. Some Long Island ZIP codes saw auto insurance jump about 80 percent from 2019 to 2025. A monthly ticket on the farther Long Island Rail Road zones ran about $357 to $395 in January 2026. The railroad is a ride into the city. It does not replace the second car for a Tuesday with no station, a school drop, or a supermarket run off Route 25.
The island has 124 school districts. Morning traffic is overlapping short trips, not one commute into Manhattan. A front-facing dash cam, a jumper pack, and a tire inflator belong in the car that actually leaves. That shopping trip lives on the cars page. This URL does not sell that kit. Outfit the car after the bottles are gone if the kitchen is still a well. Do not skip a well sample because the driveway has two sets of keys. Do not skip the camera forever because this page starts at the tap. Two Saturdays. One roof. Roads stay secondary here because the fact line for Coram is mixed wells in Brookhaven volume, not a crash SKU.
Suffolk is larger than Nassau — 1,546,090 against 1,398,939 in Vintage 2025 — but not by the same ratio as 118 to 67. This page does not invent a per-person rate the public tables did not publish. What the gap tells a Coram driveway is simpler: miles stretch farther between a job, a school, and a store than they do on a Nassau grid. A camera does not change 118. It keeps a record. Buy it on the cars guide if that is the next job. Do not make it the button on this page.
Not East End ticks, and not a listed-site SKU
East Hampton, Montauk, and Shelter Island carry ticks in grass and edge habitat. Permethrin on clothes is that hop, on the ticks guide. Coram is inland Brookhaven. It is not an East End wood line. This URL is not pants and socks. Do not hang a clothing spray on a well you have not sampled. Do not hang a well kit on a tick bite. Those are two different Saturdays on two different maps.
The island has 34 federal plus 449 state listed sites — 483 in all, not 500 Superfunds. Those listings sit on the same sand. They do not tell you whether this Coram kitchen is a well. Do not copy Calverton site numbers onto 11727. Do not copy Bethpage's Navy–Grumman plume. Do not copy Mattituck's 20 of 38 private wells over the PFAS limit. Do not copy Hempstead's 7 of 9 public wells. Those are other URLs. The sand under the island is a sole-source aquifer, designated in 1978. Nassau and Suffolk have no backup drinking water. That is the island fact. It is not a Coram diagnosis.
Most of Suffolk is still unsewered. About 26 percent of Suffolk homes are on a sewer. About 74 percent are not. The county still talks about 360,000 on-site systems — septic tanks and cesspools — on the same sand that later shows up in the glass. Nassau is about 85 percent sewered. Brookhaven's people count did not flip that split. Oakdale's sewer vote passed about 88 percent in December 2025 when grants paid. Great River voted no in 2019. Those are Town of Islip votes. They do not sewer Coram. Unsewered is not the same as a private well. Plenty of lots pay a water-district bill and still send bathroom water into a tank. Nitrate in the Magothy aquifer rose more than 80 percent from 1987 to 2013. That is leftover plumbing on sand, not a PFAS meter, and not a substitute for this kit if the kitchen still drinks a well.
If a water-district bill already arrives, skip this kit. Start with the tap guides for PFAS and 1,4-dioxane. Look for NSF 53 or P473 on the box, or reverse osmosis under the sink. 1,4-dioxane needs reverse osmosis. A fridge pitcher is a refund for that chemical. If the well report comes back high for PFAS, shop a unit tested for those compounds. Reverse osmosis also covers them. Test first if you drink a well. Cartridges are a later cost on the replacements page after a system exists. Do not hang grab bars on a well you have not sampled. Do not hang a Superfund headline on either job. The bill does. The cap does. Then the kit, or the filter class. Roads after that. Ticks never from this button.

Common questions
Is every Coram house on a private well?
No. Coram is mixed-well geography inside Brookhaven. Some kitchens pay a water-district bill. Some still drink a well. The bill and a cap in the grass settle this lot, not 11727 on the envelope.
Is this the same page as Medford or Patchogue?
No. Medford keeps the named mixed-street note for that hamlet. Patchogue is the South Shore village in the same town. Coram is inland Brookhaven on the volume corridor. Same town. Different URL.
Should I treat clothes for ticks from this Coram page?
No. East End ticks live on the ticks guide. Permethrin on clothes is that hop. Coram is not an East Hampton wood line. This button is a well kit if the kitchen is off the mains.
Do I buy a dash cam before a well kit in Coram?
No. Suffolk roads are secondary here. The 118 versus 67 traffic-death split lives on the cars page. If this kitchen still drinks a well, sample first. Outfit the car after the bottles are gone.
Does Suffolk's $100 well test look for PFAS in a Coram well?
No. Call 631-852-5810 if you want that cheaper county check. Bottle-fill, the hardware strip, and what that panel looks at live on the Suffolk wells page. A mail-in lab kit is the one that looks for PFAS and 1,4-dioxane. This site is not that office.
Did Brookhaven's growth sewer Coram?
No. Suffolk is still about 74 percent unsewered. A people count is not a sewer main. Unsewered is also not the same as a private well. The bill still decides the kit.
What if a Coram well report comes back high?
Match the chemical to the tool. NSF 53 or P473, or reverse osmosis, for PFAS. Reverse osmosis for 1,4-dioxane. A fridge pitcher is not that filter.
