East End · ticks
East Hampton ticks live in the grass. Treat the clothes.
The Town of East Hampton is the wrapper. Lyme on the East End is ecology: ticks in grass. Permethrin on pants and socks. Montauk, Amagansett, and Springs keep their own walks. A well kit is a different page if the kitchen is off the mains.

This URL is the town wrapper
The Town of East Hampton is a Suffolk town on the South Fork. It is not one hamlet. It is the legal wrapper that holds the incorporated village, the point at Montauk, the stretch through Amagansett, and the harbor-side hamlet at Springs. A tax bill can say Town of East Hampton while the mailbox, the ZIP, and the search still say a hamlet name. Those labels are not interchangeable. This page exists so a town search does not have to land on a hamlet walk, and a hamlet search does not have to impersonate the clerk.
Montauk is the far East End inside this town — beach, then hedge. Amagansett sits between the village and the dune, toward Napeague, then the point. Springs sits north of the village on Accabonac Harbor and Gardiners Bay. Those three URLs already exist. They keep the walks that belong to those mailboxes. This wrapper will not steal a Montauk trail after the sand, an Amagansett path from the beach, or a Fireplace Road Saturday. If the search was one of those hamlets, open that page. If the search was the town as a clerk would write it, stay here.
Wainscott is another hamlet in the same town, west of the village, toward the Southampton line. That west-side lot already has its own note. Sag Harbor is an incorporated village that straddles the Town of Southampton and the Town of East Hampton. The town line runs through the place people type as one harbor. That village keeps Sag Harbor. Southampton is the next town west, same ecology class, different clerk. Shelter Island is the ferry in the bay this town looks at. None of those pages are this wrapper. Pipedeck does not mint a new hamlet slug because a town search mixed the map.
Montauk Highway — New York 27 — runs the length of this town from the Southampton line out to the point. That road is geography for how far the wrapper stretches. It is not the hop. Suffolk traffic deaths (118 in 2024 versus Nassau 67) live on the cars page. Injury rates are another roads meter. Neither is the aquifer. Neither is a tick. Do not hang a crash file on a cuff, and do not hang a cuff on a crash file. The spine of the South Fork is still grass on both sides of the pavement.
The village is inside the town. It is not the town.
The Village of East Hampton is incorporated. It sits inside the Town of East Hampton. People type “East Hampton” and mean the village green, or they mean the whole South Fork town that runs from the Southampton line to Montauk Point. Those are two maps. Pipedeck does not mint a second village slug for that mix-up. This page is the town. The village lawn is still grass. The unincorporated lots are still grass. The hop does not change when you cross from village into hamlet. The URL does.
The clerk, the tax roll, and a lot-spray calendar can disagree from one block to the next. A guest who booked “East Hampton” can land in Springs and still think they are in the village. A second-home week that starts on Friday can unload in Amagansett after a search that only said the town. Treat the clothes that walk this grass wherever the car actually stopped. Then open the hamlet page if the mailbox has a hamlet name. The town wrapper is the sorting URL, not a second copy of every walk.
Two coasts sit in the same town. The Atlantic is the south edge. Gardiners Bay, Accabonac, and the harbor side are the north edge. Ocean dune and harbor marsh are both edge habitat. They are not the same Saturday, which is why Springs does not borrow Amagansett’s sentence and Montauk does not borrow the village green. This wrapper names the town so those pages do not have to impersonate the whole map. Gardiners Island sits in the town’s waters. That is geography. It is not a new Pipedeck hamlet. Do not type a new slug for it.
Nassau lawns have hedges too. East End lots just put field, scrub, wood, and water in the same glance, which is why tick season is ordinary household talk from this town out through the point and across the North Fork. The step does not change with the hamlet. The search does. Southold and Riverhead are North Fork towns. They are not this wrapper. Brookhaven took the post-2020 people in Suffolk. That volume town is not East Hampton. Freeze towns on the Nassau side — Oyster Bay, Glen Cove, Long Beach — sat below their 2020 count. This town is not that freeze file. Do not paste a census cartoon onto a pant cuff.
Ecology, not a listed-site SKU
Ticks in the Town of East Hampton live in grass, brush, leaf litter, and the seam where a mowed patch meets taller stuff after a wet spring. Lyme on the East End is that ecology. It is not a Superfund SKU. It is not a plume. It is not a tap chemical. You do not need a preserve. A village lot that stops at a hedge, a second-home lawn that stops at a wood line, a path to the can past the mowed middle — those edges are enough. Reaching into the tall stuff for a hose, a ball, or a lost shoe is the minute the treated cuff is for. Stay toward the short grass when you can. Mowing your own middle does not treat the neighbor’s strip. A municipal spray calendar does not cover a guest who cuts through tall grass two lots over.
The island has 34 federal plus 449 state listed sites — 483 in all, from the Deziel 2025 add. That add is not “500 Superfunds.” It is not 500 names on a federal NPL list. It is not a town Lyme census we are going to invent. Those listings sit on the same sand. They do not tell you whether a tick is on a cuff after a walk in this town. Calverton’s Navy/Grumman numbers — 1,4-dioxane 14.9 ppb against a 1 ppb standard, PFNA 7,580 ppt against 10 ppt in the public record used here — live on the Calverton page. That plume points toward the Peconic. It is not an East Hampton tap score. Do not copy those site numbers onto a village hedge or a Springs marsh edge.
Bethpage is a Nassau story with a Navy–Grumman TCE plume on the order of four miles by two. Hempstead’s 7 of 9 public wells with dioxane in the record used here is a Town of Hempstead note. Yale Superfund 2026, n=92, found dioxane in 32 percent of those taps and 24 percent over 1 µg/L. Tap is not blood. Blood and tap did not correlate. That paper lives on the dioxane guide. It is not an island PFAS census. It is not a tick paper. Oakdale’s sewer vote passed about 88 percent in December 2025 when grants paid. Great River voted no in 2019. Those hamlets sit in the Town of Islip. They do not sewer East Hampton Town. Do not hang a South Shore referendum on this grass.
Opioid deaths, hospital C-section habits, and thyroid rates sitting 70–80 percent above the U.S. figure are locked off water hops in the research this site writes from. They stay off this clothes hop too. Suffolk infant deaths are a long decline, not an aquifer meter. Youth overdose “+400 percent since 1990” was not found in that lock. Do not invent a disease claim for this town. This guide is not a clinic, not a county vector desk, not a lab, and not a diagnosis. Named ecological load. Permethrin on clothes. That is the job.
Permethrin is the hop. The how-to lives on /ticks/.
The hop on this town wrapper is permethrin on clothes. Spray what you wear, or buy clothes already treated. A town mist, a fogger in the garage, or a cedar yard spray is a different job. It stays on that one lot. It does not ride a cuff from the village into Springs, from Wainscott into the village, or from Amagansett toward the point. Clothes travel. Lot chemistry does not. That is why this URL starts with pants and socks instead of a yard catalog.
The clothes how-to lives on the ticks page.
If the house sits empty through the week and fills on Friday, treat a set on a dry day before the car unloads. Weekend guests in sneakers still walk someone else’s seam. Treated clothes on the people who live here do not cover the cousin who arrived in shorts. Pack the treated set the way you pack sunscreen for a beach week. The clothes go on before the first trip through the grass, not after someone finds a tick on a sock.
Do not hang a filter on a pant cuff. Do not hang a well kit on a tick. Do not hang a housing listing on either job.
A well is a different Saturday
East End lots still hide a well cap. The Town of East Hampton is not a well census. Suffolk’s water plan still cites about 45,000 private wells, on the order of 200,000 people. That is a plan figure, not a door-to-door count of this town. Nassau has on the order of a few hundred private wells. This town is Suffolk. Mixed streets exist. A neighbor on a water-district bill is not your pipe. Walk this lot. If a water-district bill never shows up, and you see a cap or a pump and a pressure tank, treat the kitchen as a well until a lab says otherwise. If people still drink, cook, and make coffee from that well, the bottles belong on the well guide. This page does not reprint how to fill them. It does not reprint a cold-tap lesson. Two chores. One weekend can do clothes first, bottles later. Do not braid them into one product.
Mattituck’s 20 of 38 private wells over the PFAS limit is a North Fork sampling round. Do not copy it onto East Hampton Town. Medford and Bellport got PFAS in private wells and mains years later. Those are other URLs. From 2016 through 2022, Suffolk sampled private wells. About 47 percent of those sampled wells showed some PFAS. Two hundred two were over drinking-water standards. That is the wells they sampled. It is not an East Hampton score we are going to invent. New York limits two common PFAS — PFOA and PFOS — at 10 parts per trillion in drinking water. You will not taste that. You will not smell it. A clear glass is not a test. If this kitchen drinks a well, measure this kitchen — on the well page, not here.
Suffolk still sells a $100 private-well test. Call 631-852-5810 if you want that product. It is a real lab. It is cheap. It looks at bacteria, nitrates, and the metals people have asked the county about for years. It does not look for PFAS. It does not look for 1,4-dioxane. This site is not that office. A twelve-dollar hardware strip will not find those chemicals either. If a water-district bill already arrives, skip the kit. Public water is treated. You may still want a filter that matches PFAS or 1,4-dioxane — NSF 53 or P473, or reverse osmosis — on the PFAS and dioxane guides. A fridge pitcher is usually chlorine and taste. It does nothing for a pant cuff. 1,4-dioxane needs reverse osmosis. A pitcher is a refund for that chemical.
Unsewered is not the same as a private well. About 26 percent of Suffolk homes are on a sewer. About 74 percent are not. The county still talks about 360,000 on-site systems — septic tanks and cesspools — on the same sand that later shows up in a glass. Nassau is about 85 percent sewered. East Hampton Town did not flip that county split. Plenty of lots pay a water-district bill and still send bathroom water into a tank. Nitrate in the Magothy aquifer rose more than 80 percent from 1987 to 2013. That is leftover plumbing on sand, not a tick meter. The sand under the island is a sole-source aquifer, designated in 1978. Nassau and Suffolk have no backup drinking water. None of that turns a tick into a tap chemical. Sorting is the job of this URL: clothes for town grass, bottles only if the kettle is a well.
Other meters stay on other URLs
Housing on the East End is still the island problem: prices outran pay. FHFA house prices on this island rose about four times since 1990. Pay rose about three. Suffolk town typicals sat near $720k in the mid-2026 file this site writes from. East End stock sits in the expensive tail of that gap, with Huntington’s million-dollar typicals and Oyster Bay listings around $1.1M — different towns, same island problem. This URL will not invent an East Hampton sale number. The comparison lives on the housing guide. If the decision is already to leave, you need a truck, not a second bottle of fabric spray. Siena still finds most people calling life here good and also that younger adults cannot stay. Both can be true in an East Hampton kitchen. Do not hang that poll on permethrin.
People born from 1946 through 1964 are 61 to 79 years old in 2025. That care crunch showed first in Hempstead and Levittown, then Babylon–Huntington–Islip. Island 65-and-older went from about 325,000 in 1990 to about 597,000 in 2025. East Hampton Town is not that South Shore ranch ring. Grab bars, if someone is staying in a high tub, live on the aging page. A canopy in the yard is outdoor. Folding steel in a packed bay is the garage. Sitting in the yard is not the clothes job, even though both happen on the same grass. Treat what you wear on this URL. Keep the buttons apart.
About 322,000 Long Islanders ages 18 to 34 still live with a parent. That household-formation file lives on households. Do not splice Series A and Series B. Do not hang an adult-child bedroom on a cuff. 124 school districts is the island count this site uses. It is not a tick count. Publisher legal mail is 65 Cedar Street, Kings Park, NY 11754. That is a North Shore address in the Town of Smithtown. It is not an East Hampton drop box. It is not a clinic. There is no public Pipedeck phone. Do not send clothes, bottles, or a tick in a bag to Cedar Street. The Saturday job on this URL is fabric in the Town of East Hampton. Hamlet walks stay on hamlet URLs. The class routine stays on /ticks/. The well, if this kitchen is a well, stays on /well/.

Common questions
Is this the Montauk page?
No. Montauk is the point hamlet inside this town. This URL is the Town of East Hampton wrapper. Open Montauk if the walk is beach, then hedge.
Is East Hampton village the same as East Hampton Town?
No. The village is incorporated and sits inside the town. This page is the town as a clerk would write it, not a second village green.
Should I open Amagansett or Springs instead?
If that is the mailbox, yes. Amagansett keeps the stretch between village and dune. Springs keeps Accabonac grass. This wrapper does not replace those URLs.
Is this a Superfund page?
No. Ticks in grass and brush. Listed sites are a different list of 34 federal plus 449 state — 483 in all, not 500 Superfunds.
Does a town yard spray replace treated clothes?
No. Clothes first. A lot mist stays on that lot. It does not ride a cuff from the village into a hamlet, or the other way.
What if this kitchen drinks a well?
Use the well guide. This hop is permethrin on clothes. Two chores. This page does not fill bottles.
Is this a water page or a Lyme clinic?
No. Lyme on the East End is ecology. Permethrin on clothes. Not a diagnosis. Wells are a separate kit.
East End tick load is grass and edge habitat, not Superfund. Town of East Hampton is the wrapper vs Montauk, Amagansett, and Springs. Clothing permethrin is a fabric treatment; how-to on /ticks/. Well kit only if off mains, on /well/. Deziel 2025 listed-site add 34 federal + 449 state. Suffolk well-plan figure and 2016–2022 sampling; county well-test line 631-852-5810; NYS MCL 10 ppt PFOA/PFOS. Calverton and Bethpage site numbers stay on those URLs.
