East End · Montauk
Montauk ticks live in the grass after the beach. Treat the clothes.
Montauk is the point hamlet in East Hampton Town. Lyme here is ticks in grass after the beach, along the dune, and on the walk to the ferry. Permethrin on pants and socks. Listed industrial sites are a different list. A well is a different Saturday.

The point hamlet, not the town
Montauk is the far East End inside the Town of East Hampton. It is not its own town. A tax bill can say Town of East Hampton while the mailbox, the ZIP, and the search still say Montauk. Those labels are not interchangeable. The town-wide note at East Hampton is the wrapper. This URL is the point. Pipedeck does not mint a second town slug because a lighthouse search mixed the map.
Montauk Point is the end of the South Fork. Montauk Highway — New York 27 — runs out here and dies at the point. That road is geography for how far this hamlet stretches. It is not the hop. Suffolk traffic deaths (118 in 2024 versus Nassau 67) live on the cars page. Injury rates are another roads meter. Neither is the aquifer. Neither is a tick. Do not hang a crash file on a cuff after a beach walk, and do not hang a cuff on a crash file. The spine of this hamlet is still grass on both sides of the pavement, then sand, then more grass.
Two coasts sit on the same hamlet. The Atlantic is the south edge: beach, then the hedge you walk to the house. Lake Montauk and the harbor are the north edge. Ocean dune and harbor brush are both edge habitat. They are not the same Saturday as Accabonac grass. Springs keeps Accabonac Harbor, Fireplace Road, and the hamlet north of East Hampton village. This page will not steal that walk. Springs will not steal the point. Guests who typed the town name and got a village green, a harbor marsh, or a lighthouse still have to treat the clothes that walk the grass they actually landed in.
The park at the point is still a parking lot, then a wood line, then the water. You do not need a preserve beyond that. Reaching into taller stuff for a path, a shoe, or the walk back to the car is the minute the cuff is for. A second-home lawn that stops at a hedge after the beach is enough. Nassau lawns have hedges too. East End lots just put field, scrub, dune, and water in the same glance, which is why tick season is ordinary household talk from this town out through the point. The step does not change at the lighthouse. The URL does.
Dune, ferry, and the town-line west
West of the village the dunes run toward Napeague, then Amagansett. That is the hamlet line. It is still East Hampton Town. It is not a new Pipedeck slug. Amagansett keeps the stretch between the village and the dune. Montauk keeps the point beyond those dunes. A search that lands on Amagansett for a Montauk weekend is a map error. A search that lands on this URL for an Amagansett mailbox is the same error in the other direction. Do not paste an Amagansett middle sentence onto a trail after the sand at the point.
Wainscott is another hamlet in the same town, west of the village, the other direction from this point. Sagaponack, past that, is Southampton Town. Southampton is the next town west of East Hampton Town, not a Montauk suburb. Sag Harbor is an incorporated village that straddles the Southampton–East Hampton town line. That line does not run through Montauk Point. Shelter Island is the ferry in the bay this harbor looks at — a different island, a different URL. None of those pages are this one. Pipedeck does not mint Napeague, Ditch Plains, or a park slug because a weekend search mixed the map.
Montauk Harbor still runs a ferry. That dock is geography on this hamlet, not a second hop. Clothes travel onto the line. A lot mist, a fogger in the garage, or a cedar spray on one yard stays on that lot. It does not board. It does not ride a pant cuff from the beach to the point, from the dune cut toward Napeague, or from a harbor-side hedge onto the next walk. Guests who drove to the point in shorts still cut through someone else's grass after the sand. Treat the clothes that actually walk: the beach-then-hedge path, a trail at the point, a dune edge, the walk to the ferry lot. The ferry does not change the bottle. It is why a yard catalog is the wrong first button.
The tick load is still East End ecology: grass, a hedge, leaf litter, and the seam where a mowed patch meets taller stuff after a wet spring. Suffolk Lyme is not a Superfund SKU. The island has 34 federal plus 449 state listed sites — 483 in all, from the Deziel 2025 add. That add is not “500 Superfunds.” It is not 500 names on a federal NPL list. It is not a Montauk Lyme census we are going to invent. Those listings sit on the same sand. They do not tell you whether a tick is on a cuff after a walk at the point. Calverton and Bethpage keep their own site pages and their own chemicals. Do not copy those numbers onto a Montauk hedge.
Permethrin is the hop. The how-to lives on /ticks/.
The hop on this point page is permethrin on clothes. Spray what you wear, or buy clothes already treated. A town mist does not cover the next trail, the dune, or the ferry lot. Clothes travel. Lot chemistry does not. That is why this URL starts with pants and socks instead of a yard catalog.
The Saturday procedure — treat fabric off the body, let it dry, then dress, check after you come in, dryer before the hamper, cats off the wet spray — already lives on the ticks page. This hamlet will not reprint that how-to.
If the house sits empty through the week and fills on Friday, treat a set on a dry day before the car unloads at the point. Weekend guests in sneakers still walk the hedge after the beach. Treated clothes on the people who live here do not cover the cousin who arrived in shorts. Pack the treated set the way you pack sunscreen for a beach week. The clothes go on before the first trip through the grass, not after someone finds a tick on a sock. Details stay on /ticks/. This page names the walk: point, dune, ferry, beach then hedge.
You can still mow the path you actually use and pull brush back from a play set. Those are ordinary yard habits. They do not replace treated cuffs on a trail at the point. Do not hang a filter on a pant cuff. Do not hang a well kit on a tick. Do not hang a housing listing on either job.
A well is a different Saturday
East End lots still hide a well cap. Montauk is not a well census. Suffolk's water plan still cites about 45,000 private wells, on the order of 200,000 people. That is a plan figure, not a door-to-door count of this hamlet. Nassau has on the order of a few hundred private wells. This hamlet is Suffolk. Mixed streets exist. A neighbor on a water-district bill is not your pipe. Walk this lot. If a water-district bill never shows up, and you see a cap or a pump and a pressure tank, treat the kitchen as a well until a lab says otherwise. If people still drink, cook, and make coffee from that well, the bottles belong on the well guide. This page does not reprint how to fill them. Two chores. One weekend can do clothes first, bottles later. Do not braid them into one product.
Mattituck's 20 of 38 private wells over the PFAS limit is a North Fork sampling round. Do not copy it onto Montauk. Calverton's Navy/Grumman numbers — 1,4-dioxane 14.9 ppb against a 1 ppb standard, PFNA 7,580 ppt against 10 ppt in the public record used here — live on the Calverton page. That plume points toward the Peconic. It is not a Montauk tap score. From 2016 through 2022, Suffolk sampled private wells. About 47 percent of those sampled wells showed some PFAS. Two hundred two were over drinking-water standards. That is the wells they sampled. It is not a point-hamlet score we are going to invent. New York limits two common PFAS — PFOA and PFOS — at 10 parts per trillion in drinking water. You will not taste that. A clear glass is not a test. If this kitchen drinks a well, measure this kitchen — on the well page, not here.
Suffolk still sells a $100 private-well test. Call 631-852-5810 if you want that product. It looks at bacteria, nitrates, and metals. It does not look for PFAS. It does not look for 1,4-dioxane. This site is not that office. If a water-district bill already arrives, skip the kit. Public water is treated. You may still want a filter that matches PFAS or 1,4-dioxane — NSF 53 or P473, or reverse osmosis — on the PFAS and dioxane guides. A fridge pitcher is usually chlorine and taste. It does nothing for a pant cuff. North Fork well notes live at Mattituck and Southold. Those are other URLs. Unsewered is not the same as a private well. About 74 percent of Suffolk homes still sit on a septic tank or cesspool. A Montauk lot can pay a water bill and still send bathroom water into a tank on the same sand. The island is a sole-source aquifer, designated in 1978. None of that turns a tick into a tap chemical. Sorting is the job of this URL: clothes for the point, bottles only if the kettle is a well.
Other meters stay on other URLs
Housing on the East End is still the island problem: prices outran pay. FHFA house prices on this island rose about four times since 1990. Pay rose about three. Suffolk town typicals sat near $720k in the mid-2026 file this site writes from. East End stock sits in the expensive tail of that gap. This URL will not invent a Montauk sale number. The comparison lives on the housing guide. If the decision is already to leave, you need a truck, not a second bottle of fabric spray. Siena still finds most people calling life here good and also that younger adults cannot stay. Both can be true in a Montauk kitchen. Do not hang that poll on permethrin.
People born from 1946 through 1964 are 61 to 79 years old in 2025. That care crunch showed first in Hempstead and Levittown, then Babylon–Huntington–Islip. Montauk is not that South Shore ranch ring. Grab bars, if someone is staying in a high tub, live on the aging page. A canopy in the yard is outdoor. Folding steel in a packed bay is the garage. Sitting in the yard is not the clothes job, even though both happen on the same grass after the beach. Treat what you wear on this URL. Keep the buttons apart.
Publisher legal mail is 65 Cedar Street, Kings Park, NY 11754. That is a North Shore address in the Town of Smithtown. It is not a Montauk drop box. It is not a clinic. There is no public Pipedeck phone. Do not send clothes, bottles, or a tick in a bag to Cedar Street. The Saturday job on this URL is fabric at the point. Amagansett keeps the middle. Springs keeps Accabonac. The town wrapper stays on /east-hampton/. The class routine stays on /ticks/. The well, if this kitchen is a well, stays on /well/.

Common questions
Is Montauk a Superfund page?
No. Ticks in grass at the point, the dune, and after the beach. Listed sites are a different list of 34 federal plus 449 state — 483 in all, not 500 Superfunds.
Do I still treat clothes if I sprayed the yard?
Yes. Clothes first. A yard treatment does not ride a cuff onto a point trail, a dune path, or the ferry line.
What if the kitchen is on a well?
Mail a lab kit on the well page. That is not this hop. Two chores.
Is this the same as East Hampton Town?
No. East Hampton Town is the wrapper. Montauk is the point hamlet inside it.
Is this the same as Amagansett?
No. Amagansett is the hamlet between the village and the dune. Montauk is the point beyond that stretch.
Is this Springs / Accabonac?
No. Springs keeps Accabonac grass north of the village. This URL is the point. Do not paste those walks onto each other.
Does the ferry change the clothes job?
No. The ferry is geography. Permethrin on the clothes that walk to it. A lot mist does not board.
